Most of the current Steam Machine status now comes from official sources. Valve launched the program and opened signups on June 22 and now says it is fulfilling orders daily. The buyer flow is still a reservation queue and waitlist rather than normal retail checkout.

Software and CAD update
Valve's July 28 update also covers two product changes:
- FSR4.1: Valve says it is now available through Proton Experimental for titles that support the FSR upgrade feature. This is experimental availability, not a promise that every game supports it or that it is enabled by default.
- External geometry: Valve published a downloadable Steam Machine CAD file for the outside of the device. It is external-shell geometry, not internal engineering or manufacturing CAD.

Reservation rules for buyers
- The program launched and registration opened June 22.
- Model lists were randomized on June 25 at 10 a.m. Pacific.
- Valve scheduled the first purchase-link email batches for Monday, June 29, with additional emails as units become available.
- Valve says it began shipping at the end of June and is now fulfilling orders daily.
- Everyone currently in a reservation queue should receive a purchase offer by the end of 2026. Valve did not promise shipment or delivery by then.
- Reservation queues and waitlists are separate by product and region, so they move at different speeds.
- Some product-region queues have reached their waitlists. Going forward, Valve says someone leaving a waitlist will first receive a reservation confirmation, followed later by a purchase email when that queue position comes up.
- Waitlisted buyers do not move ahead of people already holding reservations for the same product and region.
- Valve says a reservation purchase window lasts 72 hours.
- Changing model after randomization means giving up the selected spot.
